Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at an Arbaeen gathering in Rawalpindi, Hojatoleslam Arif Hussain Wahidi stated that mourning for Imam Hussain (PBUH) is a manifestation of love and devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), a reverence for divine symbols, and the promotion of a truth-seeking culture. He emphasized that this ritual is not directed against any faith or school of thought, but rather aims to expose the face of oppression and Yazidi tyranny while conveying the timeless message of truth-seeking, justice, and standing with the oppressed.
Wahidi added that mourning ceremonies represent the defense of truth and the unveiling of the Yazidi character, describing them as an expression of affection for the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), a form of honoring divine rites, and a realization of citizens' religious, sectarian and legal rights. He warned that any attempt to restrict mourning—even in private gatherings held within the legal framework—constitutes a clear violation of Pakistan's constitution and is part of a conspiracy that the council strongly condemns and will not allow to succeed.
He further asserted that any movement seeking to prevent the holding of gatherings commemorating Imam Hussain (PBUH) is in reality representing Yazidi ideology. Mourning, he stressed, is not against any religion or sect but serves to expose the vile face of the Yazidis and promote the message of martyrdom, truth-seeking and justice.
The senior Pakistani cleric also strongly denounced threats to open legal cases against organizers of home-based mourning gatherings, stating that any encroachment on religious freedoms and constitutionally enshrined rights is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
He called on mourners to uphold patience, calm, unity and discipline while fully observing laws and regulations to ensure the mourning processions are carried out with maximum solemnity.
The central deputy chief of the Shia Ulema Council Pakistan concluded by affirming that the council will forever remain present in the arena to defend the legal, religious and constitutional rights of mourners, and will stand resolutely against any conspiracy or curbs on Hussaini mourning.
